The Red Sea is home to some of the world’s most spectacular coral reefs. Before you dive in, here are the essentials every first-timer should know.

The water temperature stays warm year-round (25–29°C), making it perfect for snorkelling without a wetsuit. The best visibility is in the morning before the wind picks up. Always apply reef-safe sunscreen — regular sunscreen damages coral. Look out for fire coral (it’s tan-coloured and branching) — don’t touch it. Giftun Island National Park requires an entry fee; your guide will handle this.
